Don’t you love this wintery scene? It is from the Wintry Mix collection by Elizabeth Medley for Blank Quilting. Flying geese and applique corner blocks frame it beautifully, and the stripes add whimsy and movement to the design.

Get this free quilt pattern and make a modern quilt with Christmas ornaments and trees. Work with the fabrics I did or your favorite or Christmas fabrics!

I can’t believe I forgot to write a post about the quilt Deck the Halls that I designed for Dear Stella Fabrics. I worked with their collection Sparkle All the Way but it would look great with any of their Holiday fabric lines (I love “Baby it’s Cold Outside”. No, wait… so many options!).

Deck the Halls measures 53-1/2″ x 64″ – a perfect lap quilt size. The blocks are large ...

Modern Log Cabin from a Layer Cake! Fast Pattern called Retro Tiles from Quilt Addicts Anonymous from Quilt Addicts Anonymous

You may think we forgot how to count. But today’s video is not a mistake … we are bringing you a 13th Make of Christmas!

We originally planned to remake Retro Tiles, my modern log cabin quilt using a layer cake with Polar Magic by Lemoni for FIGO. But when it was time to start filming, we still didn’t have the white fabric we ordered a month previously for the background.

But white 10-inch square packs AND white yardage arrived after I started shooting, so we decided to squeeze one bonus video in for you.

In this video we ...

Here is a Christmas tree quilt pattern to display your favorite fabrics or to make as a scrappy quilt. Perfect as a wall hanging! I sprinkled it with stars and added the presents under the tree. No water required!

I have many large Christmas quilts and was looking for something I could hang on a wall or use as a throw. So, I designed the Tree of Joy Christmas quilt pattern. I finally got the binding done this weekend while listening to a book. Then, I left the house looking for a cool place to photograph it. I forgot to ...

MORE SMALL FINISHES from The Proficient Needle

I wanted to use more of the Christmas fabric, so I pulled out an old pattern, and completed 4 more items for the guild Boutique at our next show.

This was a fun project because you make 2 different blocks from each set of fabric.  Double the fun!

The first pair are candle mats.  These were made from 2 different 2 inch strips of fabric, stitched together, then a third fabric 3 1/2 inches .  When cut apart, they form 6 of each set of 60 degree triangles.

These finish 10 x 11.5 inches.

Then I used the same ...

FINALLY - TOOK A PHOTO OF MY DECEMBER FINISH from The Proficient Needle

This is my finished version of Jewel Box Stars.  I decided that I had made enough blocks, as I have other quilts waiting their turn, especially 2 for my grandchildren.  When I counted the completed blocks, I was short by 2, so I got out my phone book paper, and made the final two.
Since they were different from the rest, I decided to put a long strip of the border fabric in between.

I had fun making this quilt, digging through my scraps and small chunks of fabric leftover from various projects.  It is a bright and cheery quilt ...

OFF TO A GOOD START from The Proficient Needle

Since I still had my small collection of Christmas fabric on the cutting table, I hunted through my saved patterns, and decided to try the "Gather 'Round Runner" pattern from Iowa Star Quilts, that was part of their year of runners in 2006.

The background fabric is a poinsettia print with silver highlights, and I used the remainder of the piece!  This will go in my collection of items for the boutique at my guild's next quilt show.

I soaked the beans for 15 bean soup last night, so this morning, I drained the soaking water, and added fresh ...
